Yeah, the brand value of Aamir Khan has once again ensured that his latest offering DELHI BELLY starring Imran Khan in the lead, which opened at theaters this Friday with Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’, leads the occupancy rate in theaters with a rocking 80% on the first day.

But, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’ was not that fortunate and had to be contented with the opening response in the range of fifteen percent to twenty-five percent across the country.

What seems to have worked in favor of Aamir Khan’s ‘Delhi Belly’ is its bold and unconventional storyline and its youth- centric theme. The film has mesmerized the generation X and they are thronging multiplexes of big metros in droves.

Even, at smaller centers the responses has been good ranging about fifty to sixty percent of the capacity of theatres. Besides the irreverent storyline and its underlying situational comedy, the music of the film has also helped it at the box-office. For instance, ‘DK Bose’ number has become sort of an anthem to the youth.

Even ‘Jaa Chudail’ number has caught the imagination of the youngsters who love to watch such kind of stuff. Though the film has a gangster angle to it with a Russian smuggling diamonds for his Indian counterpart played by Vijay Raaj, but the tenor remains that of a situational comedy.



Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor have done superb job and successfully create situational comedy with their unwilling acts of becoming couriers for the gangsters. Naturally, it’s the script and screenplay that holds the part together and weaves them into a cohesive whole for the masses. The end product has become rock solid comedy far above the run- of- the- mill comedy generally offered by bollywood.

And this thing alone has been attracting the audiences towards theatres for ‘Delhi Belly’. Of course, the expletives used by the characters in the flick may play a deterrent for the family audiences but by then the movie would have earned its profits.

The only worrying thing is said to be its cost of Rs 30 crores, which seems to on the higher side for such an experimental flick. However, given the response on the initial day and the fact that the flick has been released in about twelve hundred theaters that should not be much of a problem, especially after considering earnings from satellite and other avenues.


On the other hand, Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’ which eulogizes Big B and treats him like a superstar, failed to make much of an impact at the box- office on first day of its release. The reason seems to be that the film does not cater to youth and only big B’s fans are interested in watching him at this stage.

The only silver lining seems to be the low cost of production of ‘Buddah Hoga Tera Baap’, which is around Rs 21 crore, and most of it has already been recovered by selling satellite rights of the flick.
