Pakistani Hyderabadi blues...
I like nusrat fateh ali khan's singing a lot. My mother tells me that my voice/singing is very similar to nusrat fateh ali khan. The thing is that many professional singers in modern day sing only in one or two singing forms. But nusrat fateh ali khan's has a wide deeper knowledge(liking) of many singing styles of various sects and still his voice seems sweet! Like his famous- 1) Mera piya ghar aya- brajbhasa/hindustani classical, 2) Kinna sohna tenu- punjabi classical, 3) Dum mast Qalandar- sindhi/punjabi classical, 4) Tere bin nahi- hyderabadi/ punjabi classical, 5) Shahbaz Qalandar- sindhi classical, 6) Piya re piya re- rajasthani classical, 7) Jhule jhule lal- sindhi classical, 8) Afreen Afreen- pakistani classical, 9) And (my fav) his natural singing style... the muslim kawali- ali ali ali maula ali ali. And perhaps that alap and saregamapa... is not of hindustani classical, its muslim sangit.
Sometimes the lyrics in many songs seems like saint kabir's dohes.
Kya ye alfaz un ulfat patan woh, jakke shamma ke nazdik dekho...
