ISLAMABAD: The Interior Minister on Monday sent the letter seeking to initiate treason proceedings against former military dictator Pervez Musharraf to the Law Ministry.

After receiving the letter, officials from the Law Ministry have sent it to the Supreme Court Registrars office. The letter seeks the formation of a special court for the trial of Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the constitution.

Interior Minister Chaurdhy Nisar Ali Khan announced on Sunday that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) committee had submitted its inquiry report, in light of which a treason case would be initiated against Musharraf.

Nisar said the government studied the report and decided to approach the Chief Justice of Pakistan to form a three-member special court to hear the treason case against Musharraf.

The interior minister added that the Chief Justice will identify three High Courts and one Judge from each of these courts will be included in the special court. He said the government will also nominate a Special Public Prosecutor who will prosecute the case from government's side.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said Musharraf will have to be held accountable for violating the constitution and detention of judges.
