[Haadi]

..:: Are we using or abusing our Blessings.? ::..

“We are fortunate we have eyes, yet there are blind people who see the path clearer. We are fortunate we have ears, yet there are deaf people who hear Allah’s call louder. We are lucky we have abled-limbs, yet there are disabled people who are quicker to stand in front Allah for salah (prayer) We are fortunate we have a tongue, yet there are the mute who make more dhikr than us. Are we using or abusing our gifts?”


"It is Allah who bought you out of your mothers wombs and you knew nothing at all, He gave you hearing, sight and understanding so that you might be thankful".
(Qur'an 16:78)

"It is Allah who has made for you spouses from among yourselves and through them He has given you children and grandchildren and thus provided you with a wholesome provision. How can they believe in falsehood and refuse to acknowledge Allah's blessings?"
(Qur'an 16:72)

"It is Allah who has given you a place of rest in your houses and tents made from the skins of animals, that you might find light to handle when you travel and when you set up camp; furnishings and comfort for a while from their wool, fur and hair. It is Allah who has given you shade from what He has created, and places of shelter in the mountains; garments to protect you from the heat, and garments to protect you in your wars. In this way, He perfects His blessings on you so that you may devote yourselves to Him".
(Qur'an 16:81)

"Whoever does good work, whether be male or female, being a believer, we will make them live a good life. We will then reward them with the best of what they did"
(Qur'an 16:97)

Of course we must be grateful for every blessing, and thank Allah from the bottom of our hearts. But it’s important to understand that gratitude is not just a feeling in the heart. It is expressed through action

Are you grateful for the ability to see? Then look at that which is beautiful and halal.

Grateful for the ability to speak? Then praise Allah, recite Quran and spread the message of Islam.

Are you grateful for your healthy body? Then use it to bow down in prayer.

Are you Grateful that you are mentally and emotionally healthy? Then use your gifts to do good in the world. Show love to those who are grief stricken, and kindness to those in pain. Spend your money in Allah’s cause, don’t hold on it it until it can do you no good!


Narrated by Ibn Abbas (RA): Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “Take benefit of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your sickness, your wealth before your poverty,
your free-time before your preoccupation, and your life before your death.”
( Al Hakim)

Right? He didn’t only say, “be grateful,” he said, “take benefit”! That means USE what you have been given, while you still can, before the end of this brief life that is but a moment between a sleep and a sleep, or a desert flower blooming and then fading away.


Don’t forget your imaan (your faith) and your knowledge about Deen "Islam". That is the greatest blessing of Allah and the truth is that you did nothing to earn it; rather it was a gift from Allah’s infinite mercy.

Also do not forget your safety. So many people in this world live in unsafe conditions; in war, poverty, starvation, refugee camps, political imprisonment, and other forms of extreme hardship. Just to wake up in your bed in the morning and know that your life is not in immediate danger is a great blessing.

Keep counting…

Allah says:

“[...] and if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them,”
(14:34).

How many of us are truly grateful to the one who created us, sustains us and provided innumerable blessings upon us?

Do we truly Thank HIM as we should?

Ibn Qayyim [rahimahullah] comments on showing thanks by mentioning that to attain TRUE thankfulness TO Allah, there are 5 affairs that a person must have:

1.That a person surrenders and submits to ALLAH

2.That the person loves the one who has blessed him. ALLAH

3.That a person recognises the blessings of ALLAH upon him

4.That a person praises ALLAH for blessing him with this bounty

5.That a person does NOT use that blessing to do anything that displeases ALLAH

So as our Great Scholar Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah [rahimahullah] mentioned these are the conditions for true thankfulness towards Al-Maalik, other Great Scholars of the Past have mentioned that

Thankfulness has to be attested to by the Tongue, by the Heart and by the Limbs, and the manner in which we show Thanks to Allah upon the limbs is to stay away from sin.

To sum up we should be grateful, Praise Allah and show Thanks to Allah for the Blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us and to receive more of Allah's Blessings HE has told us what we should do when ALLAH says:

And [remember] when your LORD proclaimed "If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allah), I will give you more (of My Blessings), but if you are thankless (i.e. disbelievers), verily! My Punishment is indeed severe."
(Ibrahim 14:7)

and as ALLAH say HE rewards those who give thanks and are grateful

'As a Favour from Us, thus do We reward him who gives thanks (by obeying Us).'
(Al-Qamar 54:35)

and HE says

"Verily, your Lord is full of Grace for mankind, yet most of them do not give thanks."
(An-Naml 27:73)

So lets strive to be amongst the few, [who are truly grateful to ALLAH]

So after this reminder to myself and then to you the next question applies:

'Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny?'
(Ar-Rahman 55:13)
