Unlike previous Windows 2000, which comes as the server and the client versions, Windows XP is the only client system. Its a server edition is released later on Windows Server 2003. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 built on the same operating system kernel, as a result of their development and update is more or less parallel.

Microsoft's April 14, 2009 ceased to support free operating system (oC) Windows XP, Windows XP users now can not contact Microsoft for free technical support in case of incidents, to change the design and in other situations. Now they'll have to use the services of "extended support" - this means that all calls will be charged. Extended support will continue until April 8, 2014.
