ISLAMABAD: Police fired tear gas at a growing crowd of protesters who gathered in parliament Tuesday shots were heard and some protesters threw stones at security forces near Plaza Kulsoom, Geo news reported Tuesday.

The protesters are supporters of Tahirul Qadri, who led a two-day protest march to the capital Islamabad at night to ask for a peaceful "revolution" and the dissolution of Parliament.

Police sources said someone in the crowd fired air after police fired tear gas. After the fight between police and protesters, members of the Tehrik e Minhajul Quran said its leader and surrounded him to protect him.

After the incident, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed the police and Rangers to provide security to Tahirul Qadri. Qadri said he is their guest and it is the responsibility of the police to protect you.

Malik also said the government of Pakistan is cooperating with Qadri and do not want any unpleasant event occurs.

Moreover, the interior minister has sought the report shooting from Islamabad Chief Commissioner.

It was unclear who fired the shots. Witnesses saw police firing tear gas projectiles into the crowd. Protesters threw stones and sticks holding the police were about 500 meters from the Parliament. Protesters also smashed the windows of vehicles.
