Since, by now, everyone has heard or read about Pakistan ki Beti, Malala Yousufzai who was shot by the Taliban, and at present is fighting for her life, I want to make a few comments about the culprits who committed this grave crime. These are the Taliban, the same group of barbarians who ruled in Afghanistan before they were removed from power and escaped into our country. While in Afghanistan, they were known for their brutal crackdown of women and girls by not allowing them to work, study, or even leave their homes. With their arrival here, they brought with them their extremist views (not Islam, of course) which strips women of those rights that according to Islam, are protected. As Malala fights for her life, her story shows that she has always been a fighter and in the true spirit of a Pakhtoon, she was not afraid of speaking out against the Taliban and their oppression. As a Pakistani, I am proud of her and pray for her to live and by living, teach us the value of standing up to extremism. Our beloved, pure, and peaceful religion, Islam, has been hijacked by these extremists and we must take it back. Malala showed us the way and we must walk on that path, otherwise, shame on us and we deserve what we get.
