Surah 54 AL-QAMAR–The way of life adopted by mankind for deceiving each other is to become replaced with the way of life that leads them to work for wellbeing of each other and trust in each other
This surah is named AL-QAMAR from root QAAF, MEEM and RAA. It means moon or moonlight or whiteness, greyness, full moon or full circle or target or face or beloved or nation or community or triumph or victory or goal or front etc. Word moon is used in many different contexts to express various things. Some pleasant thing or event that uplifts mood. Something that happens or is made to happen for all to see for what it is ie to expose good or bad idea or event or character or person or thing. To marry a woman, to hunt, to win, to stake, to overwhelm, to be mad, to deceive, to gamble, to bring separate things together in some way to serve some purpose. Something that completes its cycle and is ready to start a new cycle ie ending one thing to start another. Something that all of a sudden appears before people by which they are taken by surprise. The work done during the period of darkness or under the cover of darkness or during the night time in moonlight etc. The full moon was symbol of Arabs as a people before Islam and also moon was worshipped as a goddess etc etc.
This Surah is named AL-QAMAR because it is continuation of the last surah ie carrying through the same idea. The idea that if people do not live by guidance of Allah then things go wrong for people and ultimately reach point of self destruction unless people pull themselves back from brink of destruction through educating themselves and others and readjusting their course of action. This Surah is therefore warning that since events are continuing as they have been and more and more people are becoming disorientated with the existing way of life therefore a radical change is about to occur that can change the political, economic and religious landscape in the world.
It is very important for people to realise that the Quran is talking about two kinds of blissful kingdoms a) those that came about as a result of divine intervention ie when Allah sent his messengers with books and they established kingdoms according to books they were given. These kingdoms soon disappeared after their deaths because their followers could not keep up with the hard work that was needed because humanity had not yet developed to that degree. So those kingdoms were just models for later people to come so that at no time people could say, such kingdoms did not exist or could never come about again. B) the ultimate divine kingdom that will come about that will stay there forever because humanity by then would have learned enough through experiences of generations to become fully conscious of self reliance and social responsibilities and rights of each other. So conscious that one will not dare wrong another person and will do one’s best to ensure any other person is doing fine. This is why Allah ended sending messengers so that from now people learn to educate each other instead of waiting for divine intervention by means of prophet-hood and revelation. This is why there is no more book like the Quran from Allah anymore nor any messenger after Muhammad who brought mankind the Quran and established final divine kingdom. So it is now entirely up to people who claim to follow the Quran to bring about the divine kingdom by working hard for it just like the last prophet. How soon can these people do that depends on how many are working for it and how hard and how good is their planning about it and how good is their execution of the plan. All this needs proper understanding of the Quran to begin with and only then spreading the right message in a right way can help do that.
Proclaim! In the name of Allah, the provider of psychological, sociological and biological needs of mankind,
1] The time for upheavals and establishment of blissful and dignifying kingdom is fast approaching so that deceptive way of life could be uprooted.
2] Yet when the opponents of Our advised way of life see any clear evidence about it they turn their backs on it instead of learning lessons from it because their chiefs and priests give them make belief based excuses saying, this is an ingenious trick to deceive you.
3] That is how political, economic and religious chiefs deny benefits of Our guidance to their masses and keep on following their own harmful and destructive ambitions and desires but each way of life or mechanism they adopt has a set time to pass away.
4] There has already come to them the information about past generations of nations containing enough warnings
5] and profound wisdom as to how to live or how not to live but warnings are rarely taken seriously by people in positions of power such as current leadership.
6] O messenger therefore leave these chiefs to their own devices as they wish. The day when the terrible event will call upon them it will be a calling towards a terrible state of affairs,
7] Masses will rush out of their dwellings like swarming locusts, agitated and overwhelmed with their living problems,
8] chiefs will rush out due to terrible commotion to find out what has happened and these very opponents of Our rule will cry, this is indeed an awful day!
9] Long before them the chiefs of people of Noah denied benefits of Our program, constitution and law to their followers and opposed him. They rejected proposals by Our messenger calling him insane and ostracised him,
10] but he relied upon set-up systems and laws of his Creator and Sustainer saying, concern for problems of my people has overtaken me so help me!
11] So We opened the opportunities for him through Our instructions like pouring rain
12] whereby We flooded the land with prosperity like gushing springs and that is how we watered down the ambitions of harmful and destructive people through Our decreed end goal for them.
13] This is how We armed him with set of revelations to bring people together to help them move forward,
14] so the team journeyed living on under Our advised rule and care, a reward for group of a people that was ostracised and driven out.
15] Behold! We have kept that story as a lesson for mankind, so are there any people who would act on this advice?
16] And see for themselves how effective is Our program, constitution and law in saving people from their total self destruction due to Our alerting and guiding them in advance?
17] Behold! We have indeed made the message of the Quran easy for understanding but is there a nation that would act on this advice?
18] And like chiefs of Noah denied Our set rights to others the chiefs of people of Aad so how effective was Our program, constitution and law in saving people from their total self destruction due to Our alerting and guiding them in advance?
19] We let loose against them a storm for revolutionary change on the day of their bitter misfortune,
20] which snatched of them their power leaving them like trunks of uprooted palm-trees.
21] So how effective was Our program, constitution and law in saving people from their total self destruction due to Our alerting and guiding them in advance?
22] We have indeed made the message of the Quran easy for understanding, so are there any people who would act on Our advice?
23] The chiefs of people of Thamud denied Our set rights to others in contravention of Our program, constitution and law proposed by Our messenger
24] saying, are we to follow a mere mortal who has no support among us? That would surely be a wrong thing to do and utter foolishness on our behalf.
25] Was he the only person among us fit enough to receive this program, constitution and law from Allah? No way! He is indeed a trouble making liar.
26] So We said to Our messenger, worry not soon in due course they are going to find out who is really a trouble making insolent liar.
27] We are about to start the program for raising awareness among the masses for implementing Our law that balances things properly. So be ready to work hard on them for their benefit and remain steadfast and consistent.
28] So begin by telling them, the rule of law must be just and fair and same for all of them and each person must follow the law faithfully.
29] At last people of Thamud assigned one of themselves with their leadership, who took on the responsibility and implemented Our program, constitution and law in the land.
30] So how effective was Our program, constitution and law in saving people from their total self destruction due to Our alerting and guiding them in advance?
31] We let loose against the chiefs just one mighty blast for change by way of revolution by masses and the chiefs became like the trampled twigs having no more influence or power over others.
32] We have indeed made the message of the Quran very easy for understanding, so are there any people who would act on the advice?
33] Yet another example is that of the chiefs of the people of Lot who denied masses their rights as set by Us despite Our warning.
34] So We let loose against them a stone throwing mob who attacked them sparing none save people of Lot whom We saved before the start of the upheaval
35] through Our revelation. That is how We reward those who support and carry out Our mission.
36] Lot did warn them about Our message regarding revolt but they ignored his warnings as nonsense.
37] They were so low on respect for rights of each other that they would not spare even his guests from their troubles so We let them remain ignorant of light of guidance as they wished saying, be ready to face the consequences of ignoring My warning.
38] At daybreak they were overtaken by an attack that became inevitable
39] so we said, taste now the painful consequences of ignoring My warning.
40] We have indeed made the message of the Quran very easy for understanding, so are there any people who would act on Our advice?
41] Our warners also came to chiefs of people of Pharaoh.
42] They too ignored all of Our goals and guidelines and as a result of that We found them caught up in a mighty revolt.
43] So, is your opposition to Our rule stronger than your past like minded friends or have you been granted exemption in Our plan from Our law of consequences?
44] Do they boast that altogether we are a great number of people so we can fight off implementation of this program, constitution and law?
45] Soon will their multitudes be uprooted and put to flight.
46] No, you cannot fight off implementation of this program, constitution and law! The starting time for revolt is a set time. That time will be the most grievous and bitter for the opponents of Our rule
47] yet the criminals who rule others persist in wrong course of action due to their desire for remaining dominant due to being arrogant through ignorance.
48] At the time of revolt when they will be dragged by their victims into the painful suffering with their faces casted down in shame they will be told, feel the touch of pain and suffering.
49] Surely We have created everything for a set purpose and in a proper measure.
50] We initiate any process only once and Our whole program fulfils as smoothly and quickly as the mechanism involved in twinkling of an eye.
51] O you the chiefs who oppose Our rule now, We already let destroy themselves many chiefs and their supporters before you then will you still not install Our program, constitution and law and act upon it to save yourselves and prosper?
52] The simple fact is, all that people do against each other is a matter of historical record.
53] Each and every event, minor and major is obvious for all to see and learn from.
54] Surely those who will be consistent with each other according to Our guidance will land in blissful and dignifying kingdoms with abundance of things flowing like rivers,
55] a place wherein people are truly honoured by each other due to living by program, constitution and law of Allah, the sole mighty ruler of this whole kingdom.
Surah 55 AL-RAHMAAN–The provider of blissful and dignifying program for mankind in form of the Quran.
This surah is names AL-RAHMAAN from root RAA, HAA and MEEM. This root has been explained already but for reminder it means the one who provides sustenance to keep something growing and developing by fulfilling its needs till it has reached its set destination. This root holds out the concept of womb wherein a baby receives all it needs to grow from its conception till birth. Universe too is like a womb for mankind because it is full of things mankind need for their survival and growth including food for thought.
This surah is named AL-RAHMAAN because it talks about plan of Allah for mankind and the necessary provisions and how people ought to manage human population and resources to grow and develop into a people that reflect greatness of their creator’s creativity. Since this surah is all about provisions and their proper use by mankind yet people use and abuse each other therefore a particular question is repeated for mankind to reflect upon the situation they have created for themselves. Allah has created everything for everything and mankind are told to manage things in such a way that it helps mankind grow and prosper. However mankind use and abuse each other by denying each other right to things by withholding things from each other. This is not just denying each other the livelihood but also a matter of ignoring the revelation and lessons taught by the creator and sustainer. So it is a matter of being inconsistent with guidance of Allah as well as being inconsistent with each other and the consequences are what we see with our own eyes. A world that is turned into hell by some nasty people among human beings.
In this surah Allah is putting before people his program and asking which of his statements are false or can be opposed successfully by mankind to prevent fulfilment of divine plan. In a way a very powerful and a very challenging surah for those who deny existence of Allah or his revelation therefore refuse to live by way of life told by the Quran. People are told that if they think that they are the power in themselves then they should be able to avoid consequences of their harmful and destructive actions but they cannot. It is not that consequences of actions cannot be avoided but only by going about things the way the Quran explains. So there is a way to avoid a lot of harm and destruction if people chose to live that way. People cannot stop each other from doing wrong things by force but only through convincing information that makes proper sense. This is why Allah revealed the Quran. However most of the mankind never read the Quran for understanding its message properly for the time being so world is not going to change drastically at the moment. It takes decades to educate a generation of people and also it takes a lot of educated and dedicated people that are not yet there. However literacy rate is on the increase as life becomes more and more difficult for illiterate and ignorant people. If people really want a better world then they have no choice but to help each other through education. It is important in that case that illiterate and ignorant put real good effort in learning and those who can teach must do the same. Leaving people as they are is a sure way to keep the world in state that it is in.
Proclaim! In the name of Allah, the provider of psychological, sociological and biological needs of mankind,

2] has taught you the messenger this Quran.
3] He evolved mankind
4] and taught man how to communicate with his Creator and things in the universe.
5] The sun and the moon work according to His program,
6] the stars in the cosmic space and the trees in the earth submit to His laws in every way.
7] That is how He gave rise to the universe by setting-up everything in a proper balance,
8] so that by observing and learning from all that you the mankind also never transgress Our properly set-up limits.
9] Therefore establish the proper balance among yourselves regarding rights and responsibilities and never inflict loss or damage on each other.
10] As for the earth We originated it with capability for bringing about all the living things with provisions for all the creatures,
Although Allah has created this earth with capabilities as told but mankind are also told that by observing and learning from natural world people too can manipulate universe to make it into something that works for them. The earth is just the beginning and a training ground for mankind to prepare themselves to expand their hold on the rest of the universe. However to do that mankind will have to use their whole manpower and provided resources properly so that they overcome obstacles in their way. The universal hold of mankind needs people with brains and bodies that help people do that. To begin with people need to become intelligent enough to learn to live with each other as a united human family here on the earth. Only when people have learned enough that they will be able to use their manpower and available resources properly because to do that man has to become a responsibility conscious creature so that each and every human being receives one’s rights smoothly. That is because till people do not become responsibility conscious towards each other they cannot unite and work together or can see the bigger picture the Quran is trying to show them. In other words short sighted people are incapable of taking care of things they do not even realise. This is why people who love to live on basis of personal gains at the expense of each other are ignorant fools and such people cannot create unity among mankind due to their vested interests which make them use and abuse others. An example of this kind of human society is the fact that leaderships in countries use each other as enemies in order to bring unity within their own countries ie the idea of external enemy or threat. However the truth is people do not really need to unite on baseless and dangerous grounds when Allah is giving them a real goal to unite for and work hard for. A goal that can only lead mankind from strength to strength. This is why Quranic way of life is a unique idea provided people learn and make themselves capable of understanding the Quran in its proper context.
11] wherein is fruit and date-palms having sheathed clusters,
12] and grain with husk and scented herbs.
13] So which of these facts told by your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
Word ALAAIE is from roots AILF, LAAM and WOW also ALIF, LAAM and YAA as well as ALIF, LAAM and LAAM. Concrete meaning of this root is statement of facts. Other meanings include oath, shortcoming, favour, blessings, swear, shine, lightening, sharpening, yearning, family ties, pledge, covenant, agitation, to flag, to remiss, to vow, to fall short of doing what is required etc etc.
This verse has various parallel meanings depending upon which context one uses at each point that suits the text most. For example, it could be taken in sense of denial of rights to divine provisions to some people by others.
Overall these verses very clearly tell mankind their origin and purpose and what is meant by Quran based way of life. The Quran negates ownership of anything by anything or anyone other than Allah as the creator and sustainers of all things. However, mankind is given the role of management of people and resources on the basis of program, constitution and law of Allah. Therefore so long as mankind use things appropriately as told they are fine but if they will misuse and abuse them then they are told the consequences could be very serious. So serious that mankind could turn this world into a living hell for themselves. This means people must make a lot of effort and work very hard constantly and consistently to remain in harmony with universal realities for their own good or they will lose grip with realities of this world and fall behind and therefore in severe painful suffering.
14] He began origin of mankind with formation of a living cell with components extracted from the clay as liquid having potential to bring about human beings, developing it stage by stage and species by species as tree of life till came about the human species and formed the human character like clay is moulded into a shape,
15] that is how He brought about all species of creatures before mankind many of which have become extinct since then because they were brought about while the earth was still hot because they could only survive in that kind of environment.
In these verses along with other verses in the Quran people are told that Allah created all living things from tree of life including mankind. It involves a process for creation that continues once it was initiated. Things come about and fulfil their purpose and die away, likewise people too have been created for serving purpose of Allah and for that reason mankind will continue living for as long as it is will or plan or program of Allah. Another way to look at these verses is that Allah moulded some of mankind into proper human beings through his guidance because of their acceptance of it and their acting upon it and he let others die their own death because they refused to pay attention to divine guidance and they adopted the ways of life that set them up against each other so they ended up destroying each other out of their hot headedness against each other. All because they denied rights of livelihood to each other. This is why these people are asked, which of the divine rights to divine provisions will you deny each other and carry on destroying each other in doing so. It is because some end up dead due to hunger and others react and wars take place and so things end up ugly for mankind as a whole.
16] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer will you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject and oppose?
17] He is the sustainer Who brought about four seasons in both the hemispheres.
This verse could be taken in various ways including risings and falls of nations or the extend of divine jurisdiction in the universe. Both roots for words MASHRIQAIN and MAGHRIBAIN have ample meanings.
18] So which of these statements of your Creator and Sustainer will you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject and oppose?
19] He has made the two bodies of the water that come together
20] yet between them is a barrier which they cannot transgress.
There is fresh water and salty water that gathers as a result of all water flowing back into sea after rain. The evaporation process does not let all water become salty.
21] So which of these truths from your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
22] He produces pearls and coral from both of them.
23] So which of these provisions of your Creator and Sustainer do you the destructive leaders and followers have right to deny each other?
24] To Him belong the ships looming up like mountains on the sea.
25] So which of these favours of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers rightfully deny each other?
26] All that is brought into existence is constantly made to go through changes by set-up systems and laws
27] so that purpose of your Majestic Creator and Sustainer is fulfilled.
28] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
29] All that are in the heavens and the earth depend upon Him for fulfilments of their needs, His set-up systems and laws are constantly at work helping things grow and prosper that are in step with them and eliminate things that fail to do that.
This verse like many other verses in the Quran is explaining how the universe is set-up to work so things that fit the set-up come about and remain in existence for as long as they remain fit for the purpose. A clear proof that mankind are created for constant struggle to achieve the set out goals according to set out guidelines. Nothing can exist or survive against this set-up of the universe. So rulers, money lenders and mullahs are challenged that if their invented ways of life are good enough then why they are constantly faced with upheavals and wars among themselves? Is there any way of life they can come up with which is better than the one told about in the Quran whereby they can escape this situation?
30] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers really deny as falsehood and oppose successfully?
In a way the Quran is constantly challenging mankind to find anything stated in the Quran that could be proven false because it is out of step with realities of real world.
31] Soon We will settle your affair, O you the destructive leaders and the destructive followers.
These leaders are rulers, money lenders and priests and those who suck up to them who put in place falsehood in form of social, political, economic and religious systems and thereby manipulate mankind and use and abuse them. The end result of which is unending troubles throughout the world.
32] So which of these facts told by your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers deny as falsehood and oppose successfully?
33] So O you the societies of destructive leaders and destructive followers, if you can then escape Our set-up systems and laws in the heavens and the earth but the truth is, you cannot escape consequences of your actions nonetheless you can secure your future by accepting Our sovereignty and following Our program, constitution and law.
34] So which of the goals and guidelines of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers deny as falsehood and oppose successfully?
35] If you therefore fail to follow Our advice and continue on the path you are on then flames of fire of hatred and choking animosities among yourselves will be the result for you in due course when the upheavals in reaction take place and at that time you will not be able to help yourselves escape the situation.
36] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers deny as falsehood and oppose successfully?
37] Because then the universal revolt will burst forth like a sea full of fire.
38] So which of these terms and conditions for unity, peace, progress and prosperity of mankind revealed by your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers really afford to deny as falsehood and oppose successfully?
39] At that time neither group of destructive leaders nor of destructive followers will need to be asked about its crimes against Our rule and each other and wider humanity.
40] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers really deny as falsehood and oppose successfully?
41] Because the criminals will be recognised through clues on their faces and they will be caught due to their destructive plots and steps against others.
42] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
43] This is what will be told to the gathered masses about criminals, this is the hell of their own making against which they were warned but the criminals denied it could happen to them.
44] The warning will become true because the criminals will repeatedly deliver hateful speeches so the perpetrators of all this fire of hatred and jealousy will end up in the middle of the sea of fire of hatred they create.
45] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
46] On the contrary those who will get involved in establishing themselves on the foundation provided by their Creator and Sustainer, they will end up in complementary blissful kingdoms.
By working towards the divine set goal, people will ease their unnecessary stresses, strains and anxieties or worries as well as end up making double the progress towards prosperity. In these verses the Quran is talking about proper human communities that will come about if people decided to work towards that end. However people who can bring about such communities have to be highly knowledgeable and highly skilled because such societies need such knowledge and such skills to be build. This is why Quran is not a book that is for mullahs and religion. A way of life that is proper or fit for humanity take a lot more hard work to bring about than sitting on a mountain top and shouting Allah is great 24 hours a day. Words are empty and useless if they are not for acting upon to produce some end product. The Quran can only be proven useful if it has a program worth following for mankind that first and foremost takes care of their daily needs.
47] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
48] Such people will be owners of great skills whereby they will make progress and prosper.
49] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
50] Wherein will be fountains of knowledge and livelihood constantly flowing.
51] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
52] Therein will result total outcome due to their cooperation based hard work.
53] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
54] Because they will base themselves upon a solid foundation of goals and guidelines as a proper human community therefore their minds will be well connected and full of creative ideas and designs like rich brocade therefore the fruits of their self created blissful worlds will be well within their easy reach.
55] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
56] Because in them will be ability to keep their eyes firmly focused on the goals and guidelines so they will neither use and abuse others nor others will be able to use and abuse them from within or from the outside.
57] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
58] So beautifully they will fit-in with each other and get on with each other as rubies and corals are appropriately placed in a necklace.
59] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
60] Could the outcome for actions of those who work hard to make world beautiful for each other be anything other than a beautiful world for them all?
61] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
62] And besides these people there is another party that will also enter the complementary blissful kingdoms.
This verse seems to point to another time and another people instead of the people in the time of the messenger. It seems to point to full implementation of Quranic program on whole of the earth and beyond. The Quranic kingdom that was brought about by the prophet and his companions was only an example but the real Quran based kingdom is yet to come, which will be permanent. It will come when people in the whole world are ready for it ie they will have educated themselves sufficiently that as soon as the proper Quranic program is introduced it will be accepted by them and all efforts from then on will be for implementing it completely for good unlike divine kingdoms that were always established by the divine messengers here and there for a short time within a limited community population.
63] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
64] The people who will spearhead Our mission.
65] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
66] Within complementary kingdoms there will be complementary gushing springs of knowledge and livelihood for their dwellers.
67] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
68] Each planted with fruit trees, dates and pomegranates.
69] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
70] In each of them there will be people who will work hard to make things better thereby they will make the world a beautiful place for each other.
71] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
72] People who will live in world full of knowledge and things of need and want.
73] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
74] People who will not be misled by those before them nor will they mislead those who will come after them.
75] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
76] Because they will stand firmly upon foundation of proper goals and guidelines as a proper human community that is well connected like a beautiful woven fine canvas.
77] So which of these revelations of your Creator and Sustainer can you the harmful and destructive leaders and followers reject as falsehood and oppose successfully?
78] Such firmly founded and blissful is program, constitution and law that is granted to you the mankind in the name of your Creator and Sustainer to Whom belongs power to honour mankind.
Surah 56 AL-WAAQIAH–The bringing about of blissful and dignifying kingdom for mankind
This surah is named AL-WAAQIAH from root WOW, QAAF and AIN. Concrete meaning of this root is something that takes place or is made to happen. Other meanings include a situation, a happen or an event, story of an event, calamity, war, position, station, embrace, collide with, battle, a place where something happens, to fall, to befall, to alight upon , to guess, to come face to face with, to gossip, to expect, to guess, to collapse, to fall sporadically, to be confirmed, to become established, to incite, to bring about something or make something happen etc etc.
This surah is named AL-WAAQIAH because it is talking about some event that is bound to happen ie it is talking about coming of time period of upheavals or revolution, or coming about of divine kingdom. Bringing about of a divine kingdom is set goal but whether it comes about through spread of message and its acceptance or people have their own way first before reaching the same conclusion is what needs to be thought about. As people have been adopting various ways of life instead of the way of life in divine scriptures and have been suffering the consequences so it looks as if humanity has a long way to go yet before it learns its lesson finally and turns to Quranic way of life. No matter what coming about of blissful and dignifying kingdom is inevitable. It is because universal set-up is geared towards this end. What does that mean? It means that human interaction is such that each time people with opposing interests clash a change no matter how small is bound to happen that is mutually beneficial for mankind. No doubt this way things will take very, very long time to reach the same conclusion as the people with knowledge. It is very easy to make a table when someone teaches you, how to do it but takes ages if one has to do it all by oneself. Human knowledge that comes from human experience alone took its time but today what has been learned so far over the thousands of generations could be passed onto new generations within a few decades of life by knowledgeable people teaching new generations. It is because discovering things the very first time takes ages but once they have been discovered they could be passed on very quickly. Likewise if people sit down and learn the Quran then they can see what it teaches and then could follow it right away but if they ignore it then they will still reach same conclusion through their own personal discoveries but it will take them many generations to discover things that need to be discovered to realise how important it is for humanity to bring about a blissful and dignifying kingdom. Nothing will happen without people doing it but how they go about doing it will decide how long it will take them to do it. In this case there are three possibilities a)through learning and teaching the Quran b)through learning and teaching the Quran a bit and a bit relying on personal discoveries and c)through personal discoveries alone. It is like building a house in days or within life time or within so many generations. This is why the project the Quran talks about cannot be predicted and that is why when opponents of the message seek an answer when this will happen the Quran tells them when the set conditions are met the event based on those conditions will take place. In this surah also the Quran gives reasons as to why people must accept the Quran and follow it. It is all about politics and economics ie people are told to enable themselves to manage human population and resources properly with help of the Quran.
Proclaim! In the name of Allah, the provider of psychological, sociological and biological needs of mankind,
1] When the blissful and dignifying kingdom comes about, because it will be brought about
2] and it cannot be stopped from coming about.
3] It will uproot harmful and destructive way of life and install proper way of life
4] that is how the uneven landscape of human world will be evened out in due course
5] because the heavy weights of the human world will end up losing their power and influence
6] and become dislodged and disorientated like dust blown away and scattered by the wind.
7] However before all this happens you the mankind will be in three groups.
8] As for those who will come aboard Our program, constitution and law, what a great life this will bring to those who will come aboard Our guidance!
9] As for those who will oppose Our program, constitution and law, what a terrible life this will bring to those against Our guidance!
10] As for those who will come aboard Our mission earlier they will be the ones who will spearhead the campaign for the mission.
11] They will faithfully stick to Our goals and guidelines
12] for bringing about the blissful and dignifying kingdoms in the world.
13] A party of them will struggle earlier for the progress and prosperity of mankind.
14] And likewise a party of them will struggle later for progress and prosperity of mankind.
15] They will be founded on platform of goals and guidelines of dignity as jewels in a necklace
16] sharing mutual dignity.
17] And their ever lively and dependable young people will be going about their business happily serving their proper human community
18] with bundles of livelihood as per their needs due to pleasant intakes in sessions from the flowing rivers of information and understanding as shining beakers and cups of pure wine of revealed knowledge,
19] that will neither let them feel hardship nor fed up with sense of responsibility due to inspired motivation like a pleasant drink that neither pains the heads of drinkers nor takes away their senses.
20] They will have fruits of their own hard works,
21] the ultimate delicacies of life
22] and loving and intelligent fellow settlers of the kingdoms with great vision
23] like valuable pearls well guarded and kept far away from corruption
24] as a reward of their own hard works that they would have done.
25] Therein these people will not hear any harmful talk nor destructive words against each other
26] but only the reassuring words by one to other, I want to ensure peaceful existence for you and the other replying, I too want to ensure peaceful existence for you also.
27] Such will be the people who will come aboard Our program, constitution and law, what a happy people will be those who will come aboard Our guidance!
28] They will be part of trouble free human communities,
29] like clusters of fruits like bananas,
30] with extended thick protecting shades,
31] and with livelihood constantly flowing like water,
32] and abundant fruits
33] of uninterrupted never ending supply,
34] for as long as they will continue living a blissful and dignified life.
35] It will be as if We have given these communities a new lease of life
36] by making them capable of performing unparalleled hard works
37] by bringing out of them their hidden potentials
38] for those on board Our set goals and guidelines.
39] A party of them will struggle earlier for progress and prosperity of mankind.
40] And a party of them will struggle later for progress and prosperity of mankind.
In these verses the Quran leaves mankind in no doubt that ignorant people with arrogance who refuse to learn have no future and that people who have learned a lot of information and have learned to make proper sense of it will ultimately succeed in bringing about major changes in the world at least twice. This means first time change will be temporary but change brought about the second time will be permanent. It is because the second time mankind as a whole will have learned a lot so they will become fully aware of what happens when some of the people lack knowledge in the human community so they will ensure that educational institution are properly build and looked after and that people are fully aware of their responsibilities to each other and about right of each other. It seems the kingdom brought about at the time of the prophet was just a small example for the world to follow and world had not yet learned to understand things so the kingdom that was brought about by the prophet did not last very long. Even though the final messenger made sure people got the message from Allah but its proper understanding was not possible for people at the time because they did not prepare themselves for it. It is one thing for a person to be given a book but another to prepare himself to be able to read and understand it. As explained already, Allah created mankind with brains and bodies fully able to learn all by themselves to the degree that they become self aware and aware of their universe and that should give them enough life experience to then concentrate on understanding the message of Allah. If they do not then whatever happens to them as human populations in consequence they are responsible for it. If one can understand something then that makes is possible for others to do the same. However most people avoid working hard for getting things done that need to be done that is why the world is the way it is. Most people are not bothered with knowing about what is happening out there and why and those who do, most of them do so as far as they are forced by their circumstance and very few are bothered with wider thoughts and bigger picture.
The Quran is all about bigger picture in which humanity is showing little interest, which is obvious from what humanity is doing to educate its population. People are not building as many schools, colleges and universities as many are needed for human population. It is not that they cannot build them but because they do not want to build them. If all people decide on working hard for free just for the good of humanity, what is it that they cannot accomplish and within a short period of time? This is the Quranic way of life that people are not trying to understand. It is because dominant people in human societies have taken humanity in the direction that suits them. This is why humanity has become slave to some of its stupid members. That is why they need to be removed from positions of power because they are deliberately putting humanity on path of ignorance and stupidity so that they keep getting the animals they need for their slave labour. This is why clash between Quranic way of life and any other way of life adopted by mankind is inevitable and the Quranic way of life is bound to succeed in the end. This is what this surah is about.
41] As for those on the opposite side of Our program, constitution and law, what a terrible life will engulf people on the opposite side of Our guidance!
42] They will be in the middle of scorching winds of make beliefs and in hot water of hatred due to cruelty through oppression and suppression by each other
The Quran inspires and motivates people in a particular direction which is good for humanity but people who set themselves up against the Quranic way of life produce such ideological material which is very damaging for humanity because it inspires hatred and motivates people to act destructively towards each other. Words scorching wind and boiling water stand for spreading of material that can damage and destroy humanity. Water can give life to things but it can also damage them depending on its temperature and use. People can drown each other in water or throw each other in boiling water and cook each other. Drinking hot or boiling water is all about taking the bate and spreading destruction ie by listening to hateful lectures people can become influenced and cause havoc just like good lectures can inspire people to act for the good of humanity. So people who will oppose the way of life told in the Quran will always end up in terrible disputes and wars due to basing their lives on personal interests and gains at the expense of each other because that cannot lead to anything other than divisions based on rivalries and animosities and hatred leading to wars between people. Each person in that kind of living is forced to survive at the expense of all others. This is why Quran uses phrases like scorching winds ie hot exchanges of words and hatred spreading speeches and lectures to cause fights and wars for gains between people. A fatal slap on the face of religion and secularism by the Quran. This is why people conspire against each other to take undue advantage of each other for personal gains in one form or another at the expense of proper human community spirit inspired by the Quran. This is why such societies can never become open and transparent societies because how can then people deceive each other to take undue advantage of each other? The Quran wants people to be consistent with it and with each other and that is why if any people want open and transparent human communities then Quran is the leader and anything against it is misleading therefore very harmful and destructive for humanity. When people fall below human dignity due to their stupidity then they can only live by hiding themselves from rest of mankind and even could end up committing suicide.
43] living in the shade of sorrow like a pitch-black cloud of smoke due to inflicting harm and destruction upon each other,
44] which neither leads to life of dignity nor of refreshing comfort.
45] All this will happen because by adopting this way of living people in high places live in comfort at expense of others before all of them end up in this state.
The sole reason some people want to fight against message of Allah is because they want to dominate others by undermining them so that thereby they could use and abuse them for their personal gains. However, when tipping point is reached things turn very ugly for them and history is witness to this fact. When some people treat others as less than human beings then time is going to come when used and abused people get fed up and so the victims go on rampage for revenge. This agitation succeeds because power never concentrates in any single hand ever so power struggles between powerful nations and people give their victims chances to join those who support them and attack those who have been victimising them. History is therefore full of bloody revolutions. The Quran wants to educate people out of this cycle of violence and destruction but people hardly listen so they instead turn to their own devices.
46] They persist in heinous crimes against each other despite being warned about the consequences of doing so
47] and say, are we really going to end up destroyed and stripped off of our possessions and left bare to the bones? How can anyone make anything like this to happen to us or push us aside like this?
48] And is this really what happened to our forefathers also?
49] Tell them, surely it happened to all those of old and it will happen to all those of present age and will continue to happen always because of set-up systems and laws of Allah that are constantly at work in the universe.
50] This is why you people will also be brought face to face at an appointed time so you too will come to know the truth on the day made known to you.
51] Then, O you the people based upon harmful and destructive ways of life whereby you deny others access to Our provisions
52] you yourselves will end up eating the fruit of your self-planted terrible tree of hatred and wars,
53] and fill your bellies with it
54] due to drinking the scalding water, it will be water of hatred
55] but you will drink it like thirsty camels.
56] This is how their state of existence will manifest itself on the day when they will be taken to task by those whom they would have treated terribly.
These verses are explaining interaction between people and the reasons for it as well as the outcome. All this is inevitable if people do not stop living the way they are and change their ways and work for bringing about the kingdom advised by Allah.
57] We have surely created you and guided you, will you therefore not fulfil Our purpose for your creation faithfully?
58] Have you bothered observing the human sperm to learn lessons from it?
59] Is it you who create it or are We the Creator of it?
60] It is We Who have set-up systems and laws to bring about your fall as nations if you fail to meet Our standard because there is nothing that could hold back Our plan from being fulfilled
61] even if by replacing you by others of your own new generations or by transforming you into something you have no idea about just as yet.
62] You already know well your first rise as a proper human community, why then do you not learn lessons from that by reflecting on that?
Here Allah is referring to story of prophet Adam, the very first chief administrator and his people. How people became fed up with bloodshed and decided to form a proper human community to end bloodshed but even after that some conspired against the divine kingdom and brought it down bt Aadam managed to recreate it but after him it was lost again by later generations of people. Ever since things have been turning ugly and have been rescued and went wrong again and again. The very same carries on even today till humanity is rescued a final time. After humanity is rescued this final time it will never return to old ways ever again because it willhave learned its lesson and will continue educating its future generations without fail.
63] Have you observed and learned lessons from the seed that you sow in the ground?
64] Is it you who cause it to grow into a plant or is it Our set-up systems and laws that cause it to grow?
65] If it serves Our plan, We let it crumble into chaff and you are then left crying
66] that we are indeed left without anything,
67] therefore surely we have been deprived of the fruit of our labour!
People only think about their own work and do not think about provisions of Allah whereby he claims right to be listened to. After all sowing the seed is only part of the process and not the whole process that is handled by set-up systems and law of Allah. He has right to deprive mankind of anything he likes just like people have the right to deprive each other of the fruits of their labour. So those who refuse to live by way of life told by Allah therefore lose the right even to their own existence, if they could but think things through. This is why people must not stop people from getting access to provisions of Allah or they themselves then lose the right to life by taking over what belongs to Allah on basis of might is right. They must therefore realise they cannot live for long by opposing the way of life advised by Allah. They will be caught in their own traps it is only a matter of time.
68] Have you observed and learned lessons from the water which you drink?
69] Is it you who bring it down from the clouds or is it brought down by Our set-up systems and laws?
70] If it serves Our plan, We could let it remain salty. Why then do you not make use of all that We have provided you with properly?
71] Why do you not observe and learn lessons from the fire you kindle?
72] Is it you who grow the tree which feeds the fire or is it result of Our set-up systems and laws?
73] We have made it a lesson for mankind to learn from as to what the life will be without light of Our guidance, just like guiding stars as a provision for life of the travellers of vast desert lands.
74] Therefore strive hard for bringing about the kingdom according to your Glorious creator and sustainer.
75] This is why We cite the situation of guiding stars with the travellers of desert as evidence because it is a similar situation between light of Our guidance and the way mankind should live their lives,
76] and no doubt it is indeed a solid evidence if you but examine it
77] because the fact is, this Quran is indeed a program that leads to life of bliss and dignity,
78] preserved in form of a written book for you the people by the messenger
79] that none can reach save the ones free of malice in their minds against Our guidance and mankind.
Here the Quran states some very important facts a)the Quran is light of guidance for mankind b)it is written down in form of a book c)all enemies of the Quran and humanity can never destroy it no matter whatever steps they take against it and d)only those people will be able to understand its message who already know what they are looking for in the Quran to help them see if it is really what it says. Any other people who will read the Quran will not be able to grasp the message because they have not prepared themselves for it ie they have not used their God given brains and bodies to learn sense needed for understanding the Quran. This also means that humanity is not going to be in the kingdom of Allah by tomorrow because to educate mankind is one thing and to seek education is another because people cannot be easily motivated to go to schools and colleges and universities. Even those who wish to go obstacles are put in their way to keep them from learning so one can see how hard work it needs and by how many people before mankind could bring about a better world. It shows how knowledgeable and hard working the messengers of Allah were to be able to convince so many people in such short periods of time. The last messenger of Allah according to reports spent 23 years of his life in trying to get the message across. So people can see how much they need to learn and how hard working they need to be to spread the proper message of the Quran properly.
80] It is sent by Creator and Sustainer of the nations of the world.
81] So will you still hold this statement as baseless nonsense
82] and make denying it its true place in your lives your food for thought and actions?
This verse is telling mankind that the truth of the Quranic message cannot be denied for long and that there is no sense in people making it their business to work against the Quranic message. It will only add to their problems. Moreover if people decide to remain ignorant then how can they benefit from the message even if they wished they did. The message and the preparations for understanding and implementing it are different things. Unless people make ready themselves the message will not prove much useful for them.
83] If not then why is it that when you see a nation being choked to death by an oppressive regime or system you do not intervene to restore its life and dignity by using this program?
84] Instead you helplessly look at each other like fools knowing not what to do?
85] That is the time We could prove very helpful to you through Our program yet you do not see any use for Our program due to your ignorance.
86] So why do you then not - if you claim you are not subject to Our laws -
87] restore to the dying nation its life and liberty if what you say is true?
This verse is attacking the make belief that Allah can do anything at any time haphazardly without any regard for his proper plan, rules and regulations etc. A clear condemnation of belief in miracles and magic etc. The whole Quran is full of verses telling us Allah never goes against his own plan and works according to set-up rules and regulations. This is why he is wise a wise ruler of this kingdom of universe. People think by performing some nonsense rituals they are doing some work for Allah and after that they ask Allah to do things for them as if they have a private contract with him about all this. A very clear proof that religions are nonsense created by rulers and their mullahs to make fool of simple minded people. The contract with Allah is made clear in surah 1 that if people will live as they are told by Allah for the purpose of life as set by Allah then Allah will give them a beautiful life through their acting upon his program for that purpose. Nowhere Allah is looking for empty words as praises from mankind. He wants recognition by mankind through use of their brains and bodies as already explained in detail.
88] The truth is, if the dying nation becomes one of those nations that sticks to Our program, constitution and law
89] then there is inspiration and motivation for it to progress and prosper into a blissful and dignifying kingdom.
90] So if it decides to come aboard Our guidance
91] then tell it, peace and prosperity awaits you the community based upon proper guidance from Allah.
92] However if it decides to be of the nations that are confused and reject Our guidance,
93] then way of life that is based on hateful ideological material awaits it,
94] as well as agonising painful suffering as a consequence.
95] Surely this is the truth that is convincing.
96] Therefore strive hard in the name of your Magnificent Lord to manifest it in form of a blissful and dignifying kingdom for mankind.
