Rawalpindi: Curfew lifted, city moving back to normalcy
RAWALPINDI: Residents of the garrison city felt relieved as the curfew was lifted and life started moving back to normalcy. The curfew in the city was clamped on Friday evening, followed by clashes between two groups that triggered when an Ashura procession was passing through the Raja Bazar here. The city administration said that with improvement in the law and order situation, the curfew has been lifted this morning, but section 144 will remain enforced. Sources said that all the blockades at the exit/entry roads of the city were removed for smooth flow of traffic. Security at places of worship has been heightened and troops are on standby for meeting any eventuality. Shortly after curfew was lifted, protestors demonstrated against the Rawalpindi tragedy and forced the closure of shops in Raja Bazaar, Bara Market, Sabzi Mandi, Urdu Bazaar and other markets of the city. |
