“Wow, the Yangtze River is like the Yellow River now!” Yesterday, at the Chaotianmen Pier of the Yangtze River in Chongqing, many tourists found the color of Yangtze River became unusually red. The environmental protection department speculated that this may be due to river sand brought from upstream during flood season.
Yesterday afternoon, Yuzhong District and Banan District Environmental Protection Bureau staff told reporters that the river in Chongqing city district area is indeed redder than usual, however after investigation, there were no illegal sewage dumping found around the coastal area. So the initially speculation of the cause was due to river sand brought from upstream during flood season. The specific cause is still under investigation.
