ingredients: serving 4-6
-one large onion
- 3 cloves of garlic
-4 large mushrooms
-1 (400 tin chopped tomatoes)
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
-1 tsp turmeric, 300 ml hot beef stock
-500g lean beef mince
-some veg oil
-4 tbsp butter
-3 tbsp plain flour
-4 cups milk
-½ tsp grated nutmeg
-some salt
-some mixed herbs
-250 g lasagne sheets (precooked)
-shredded mozzarella and some parmesan cheese.
Method:
First dice one onion, peel and grate 3 cloves of garlic, then chop 4 mushrooms. In a heated pan splash some vegetable oil, then place the diced onion to soften. After a minute or two add the grated garlic. Let it cook for another 2 min or until the onion look transparent. Then add turmeric and cook for addition min or 2. Then add the ground meat and stir. Once its nice and brown, add tomato paste and let it cook for 3 min, then add the chopped mushroom and stir again. Add a pinch of salt, then pour in the beef stock which it’s been dissolved in 300 ml of boiling water. Give it stir, and add the chopped tomato. add some mixed herbs. Give it a stir and cover and let it cook in reduced heat for 45 min.
While we are waiting let’s make our white sauce.
Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the flour and stir till you get a golden sand color paste. Add the milk and stir well till it becomes soft. Season with nutmeg and stir. The White sauce is ready. Set aside and preheat your oven to 180 C. In a 9 x 13 x 1 inch pan pour a spoon of white sauce and with back of your spoon spread evenly. Then add a spoon of meat sauce to the layer and spread evenly. This is so lasagna doesn’t stick to the bottom of your dish. Place three sheets of lasagna down. Repeat the process again with a bit more of meat sauce, white sauce and spread evenly. Add some shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Repeat the process of layering by adding more lasagne sheets, white sauce, meat sauce and another layer of two cheeses. Three layers should be fine for a perfect lasagna. Place it in the oven for 20-30 min and voila it’s ready.
hope you like it =)
