A helpful tip to start things off: have your nails grow longer. Once you have achieved the desired length, you may trim it so that the tips are even, or slightly curved. You can then start doing your own fancy nails.

Here are the very basic steps on how to do a perfect French manicure:

.Wash your hands, clean your nails and soak them in warm water for a few minutes. Then using a cotton bowl soaked in nail polish remover, wipe off any old nail polish prior to doing your own French manicure.

.Once the water has softened your skin, gently push back the cuticles so they are all even with each other. Use an orangewood stick when doing this.

.Shape your nails evenly using nail clippers, beauty scissors or a nail file.

.You may start to apply a base coat to each of your fingernails. A color-less polish is usually used as a base coat.

.With a steady hand, carefully paint only the tip of each nail with a white nail polish. A second coat may be applied depending on the thickness of the nail polish. Allow polish to dry between coats. For easier application of the white tips, you can buy guide tips being sold on some beauty shops. This covers the lower portion of your nails while exposing the tips for easier application of nail polish.

.Once the tips have dried, paint the entire nail with a slightly transparent pink or nude colored nail polish. A second coat may be necessary depending again on the thickness of the nail polish. Allow nails to dry thoroughly.

.As a finishing touch, apply a clear topcoat to protect your new do-it-yourself French manicure. Make an effort to paint a clear coat on each night to lengthen the manicure's lifespan.

.Now that you have perfected your French manicure, how about doing the same for your toenails?
