Ahaa'n ... To Janab Ye Saint Valentine's Day Christian Culture Ka Hissa Hay, Jo 14th Feb Ko Manaya Jata Hay .. Pyaar Ka Izhaar Karnay Kay Liye Lovers Valentine Cards Flowers Gifts etc etc Apnay Apnay Luvers Ko Daitay Hain .. Filhaal Itna Hi Janta Hoon History ka Theek say Nahi Pata ..

To Sab Say Pehli baat, Pyaar Ka Izhaar Karnay Ka Koi Aik Khas Din Nahi Hota Meri Nazar Main, Ye 14th Feb Ko Bhi Hosakta Hay Aur 14th March Ko Bhi ..
Aur Doosri Baat Agar Hum 14th Feb Ko Hi Ye Kaam Karain, To Koi Shaq Nahi Reh Jata Kay Hum Christian Culture Ko Follow Kar Rahain Hain .. Jo K Meri Nazar Main Wakai Ghalat Baat Hay ...
Last Valentine Day Par DDOO Aap Bhi Jantay Hogay, Lahore Say Hona Aap?? .. Punjab University, Islami Jamiat-e-Tulba Aur MSF Walay Roads Par Danday Lay Kar Phir Rahay Thay.. Aur Koi Couple Nahi Nazar Aya Tha Lahore Main .. :(l0l):
Magar Aisa Bhi Nahi Hona Chahiye ..
DANDAY Kay Zor Par baat Nahi Manwani Chahiye ... Kisi Kay Knwledge Main Lay AoO K Ye Christian Culter HaY .. & We are not Christians .. Kabhi Un Ko bari Choti Eid Manatay Daikha Hay Is Josh O Jazbay Say ???
Haan Agay Us Banday Ki Marzi Manay Ya Na Manay Ye Us Par Hay ...

Well we should celebrate it depends if you arent an extremist ahem ahem it has nuthin to do with the religion just a fact of a humble person... i could be wrong but still i dont fink soooo...
We celebrate Valentine's Day, because until 1969, it was one of the many Saint's Days observed by the Catholic Church. It was dedicated to the patron saint of romantic causes, St. Valentine.
Although it was removed from the Church's calendar in 1969, the religious meaning coupled with Valentine's Day's roots in Roman paganism have allowed it to continue as a holiday for everyone.
Early Christians saw Valentine's Day as a way to honor St. Valentine, of whom there were actually three. The Catholic Church recognizes three saints by that name, all who were martyred on February 14.
The St. Valentine the day is named for was, most likely, a priest in the 3rd century who performed secret marriages when the Roman Emperor Claudius II thought single soldiers were more likely to enlist in the army. That St. Valentine was imprisoned and executed on February 4, 270. It is believed he was responsible for giving the jailer's blind daughter back her eyesight, and before his execution, he sent herss a note saying, "From your Valentine." The phrase is still widely used on valentines today.
It wasn't until 1537 that St. Valentine's day was declared an official holiday. England's King Henry VIII, known for his ways of disposing of wives, declared February 14th a holiday. It was another century and a half before religious devotional cards became non-religious cards to reflect the change in the holiday.
In 496 A.D., February 14, was declared in the name of St. Valentine by Pope Gelasius. It remained a Church holiday until 1969, when Pope Paul VI took it from the calender.
On February 14, the ancient Romans celebrated the Feast of Lupercalia in honor of Juno, the queen of the Roman gods and goddesses. Juno was also the goddess of womesn and marriage so honoring her was thought to be a fertility rite.
At the feast held the next day, the women would write love letters and stick them in a large urn. The men would pick a letter from the urn and for the next year, pursue the woman who wrote the chosen letter. This custom lasted until the 1700s when people decided their beloveds should be chosen by sight, not luck.

Basically, Valentine's day means when you tell someone that you love him/her. Tho yeh tho koi gunaah ka kaam nahi hai. Valentine's day manaaney mein koi harj nahi hai, sirf iss ko manaaney k tareeqey mein harj hai. If you love someone and he/she is with you tho har day Valentine hai sirf 14 February hi kyun. Islam fazool kharchi se mana karta hai aur iss din jo fazool kharchi doosrey log karthey haii woh na karein baqi mere khayal mein Valentine's day manaaney mein koi harj nahi hai.

i agreed with shrarati munda's point of view but i wanna add little bit more,
nothing bad in valentinesday , its just that we dont want to adopt any of foreign traditions.. which is sad.
i wont mind if im pointed out wrong....we can all be wrong..but to be pointed out wrong...one has to first give a "proof" ..
dont depend on others

as most of us said in above posts
love ke izhar ke liye aik special din nahi hona chahye
& I am in favour of it aur na hi gifts ke liye koi special day
hona chahye haan agar is din ko sirf LOVERS ko gifts deene ke
liye special na banaya jaye tu we can celbrate it
like give gifts to any one we love like in family , friends & others
jis tarah hamare festivals hote hain :)
is din ko flower day kahien tu zaida acha hai na ke Lovers day

Assalam o alaikum,
Interesting topic,
Well, as Maham jee said earlier it is a personal matter.
But if you are Muslim the case is different.
I'm getting this from another website.
It says:
All Muslims are required to love one another and to wish and inculcate love among people
regardless of their colour, race, religion or identity. However, this does not mean dissolving our
identity or blindly copying and imitating others' traditions and practices. Islam goes agains
celebrating Valentine's Day because commemorating that day is an innovation or bid'ah that
has no religious backing, let alone the unlawful practices done during it that Muslims should not
take part in it.
Bid'ah = A Bid'ah is that innovation which came into practice after the blessed age of the prophet
(salall laahu alaihi wasallam) be it wordly or religious.
