AA ke meri jaan




aa ke meri jaan mein qaraar nahin hai
taaqat-e-bedaad-e-intazaar nahin hai

dete hain jannat hayaat-e-dahar ke badale
nashshaa baa_andaazaa-e-khumaar nahin hai

giriyaa nikaale hai teri bazm se mujh ko
haaye! ki rone pe ikhtiyaar nahin hai

ham se abas hai gumaan-e-ranjish-e-khaatir
khaak mein ushshaq ke gubaar nahin hai

dil se uthaa lutf-e-jalvaa haye ma_ani
gair-e-gul aaiinaa-e-bahaar nahin hai

qatl kaa mere kiyaa hai ahad to baare
vaaye! agar ahad ustavaar nahin hai

tu ne qasam maikashi ki khaai hai ‘Ghalib’
teri qasam ka kuchh aitabaar nahin hai

TRANSLATION-

Come that my soul has no repose
Has no strength to bear the injustice of waiting

Heaven is given in return for the life of this world
But that high is not in proportion to this intoxication

Such longing has come from your company
That there is no control over my tears

Suspecting torment, you are indifferent to me
So no love resides in these clouds of dust

From my heart has lifted the meaning of pleasure
Without blossoms, there is no spring in life

You have pledged to kill me at last
But there is no determination in your promise

You have sworn by the wine, Ghalib
There is no faith in your avowal

warna kia baat kar nahi aati Not inexpediently for words i grope

kyn na chekhon k yaad karte hain Why not I bawl at beloved's call
mairi awaaz gar nahi aati Though voice from lips cannot cope

hum waha hain jaha se hum ko bhi We are at a stage, all foriorn
kuch hamaari khaabar nahi aati All adrift, bereft of hope

martey hain aarzoo mai marney ki How we DiE for death to come
mout aati hai par nahi aati..... It does not come but deals the rope
