In the past three weeks there has been three drone attacks in various areas of North Waziristan. All the attacks have been conducted on compounds belonging to extremists and close to the Afghan border. A total of eleven suspected extremists have been killed and a larger number have been reported to be wounded.

The question remains, are drone strikes really against our sovereignty? Looking at the situation in FATA, I can’t help but to ask, what sovereignty? Do we control those areas or it is under the extremists’ rule? Can we even go there freely? The answer to all these questions is “NO” meaning sovereignty is just a word with no action. The actual action, then, comes from the drone strikes.

In his latest interview with the BBC, Hakimullah Mehsud asked for the drone strikes to stop. This condition of the TTP shows us how effective drones have been against his group and the foreign extremists he supports. Let us not forget that while the drone strikes target extremists hiding in FATA, the TTP is targeting innocent Pakistanis in places like Qisa Khwani bazaar and All Saints Church of Peshawar.

May Allah save our country from these enemies.
