"How dost thou? Mon fickle friend...!"
Stuck in arm, gone round the bend?’
Art thou affrighted of doctor’s breath?
Firthly cold of furthering steth?
Fill thy breast with dire faint....?
Twixt fiendish din and lonely saint!
When thy cares flounder upon
Here thou art, then gone anon
All fair and foul ere thou swim
Then worldly lights flicker dim
Smiles of those thou lovest abound
Vexing slow to hollow sound
Though yet upon thee fully lost
Thy soul in realms, in rages tossed
Soon be waked, sure ye will
But faint again with doctor’s bill!

Exegesis:

When one is going under the knife and being administered anesthesia, it’s a strange surreal feeling that crashes upon one in waves. Fears, hopes, concerns, bravado and a coming and going of random thoughts as if a computer’s RAM has gone whacky.
Archaic and old English is used purposefully to help capture the aura of the moment coupled with the irony and attendant dark humor.
