Family shell-shocked after losing three members

PESHAWAR: The Friday’s deadly suicide attack on Special Investigation Unit of police near Swati Phatak caused pain to many but it let loose hell on a family of Omeedabad area that lost three members in the incident, altogether changing their life.

The ill-fated Manzoor Hussain, who was a retired warrant officer of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and presently working as Admin Officer at Fazaia Degree College, returning home on a motorcycle along with his two daughters. As they reached Swati Phatak, a blast occurred in which his two daughters, 25-year-old Naheed and 13-year-old Aasia, were killed on the spot.

Naheed was a computer laboratory assistant in the same college where his father was working. The family’s relatives said Naheed was to wed in December. She also got United Kingdom visa and was supposed to shift to UK after her marriage as her fiancÈ was settled there. But fate had decided something else for her.

Manzoor Hussain left behind a widow, six sons and two daughters to mourn the death. The unlucky family could not see the bodies of their dears as they were mutilated. All the three victims were identified by their clothes and the school bag of little Aasia, which was hanging on to a tree. Aasia insisted on going to school on the fateful day despite repeated advice from her brother to stay at home.

Despondency, gloom and shock overwhelmed the whole family and the entire vicinity. The unstable and grief-stricken Nasir Hussain, the eldest son of Manzoor, could not control his feelings while receiving people who came to him to offer fateha.

The brothers could not believe that the tragedy had shattered their lives and taken away three of their family members, one of them the main pillar.The widow of Manzoor, also the mother of the two slain girls, and a teenage sister of Nasir were still in a state of shock. The relatives said they were on injectable sleep inducers. Whenever they retain consciousness, they behave like insane crying and weeping for their loved ones, said Tahir, a relative of the family while talking to The News.

He said soon after the blast, they tried to contact their uncle but his cell phone was not responding. “We contacted the college administration which informed us that Manzoor along with his daughters had left for home,” he added.

Tahir said one of their relatives who reached the scene of the blast identified Manzoor Hussein and informed them of the tragedy.His eyes brimming with tears, Nasir said he still could not believe that his father and two sisters had left them forever. “They were innocent people, what was their crime? We have done nothing wrong, why did it happen to us?” he told the media. No one has answer to Nasir’s question as the perpetrators of such heinous crimes have no ideology, morality and religion.
